About the Artist
DAVID A. TEMPERANTE
An
in-born artist, Avid, as he is called by friends and peers, is a virtual
picture of a painter abloom in visual-arts horizon. His recent trip to New York
where he displayed his paintings along with some noted Filipino artists in a
group exhibit sponsored by Philippine Airlines must have added luster to his
creative brilliance. Commissioned portraits that came his way while still in
the Big Apple manifest the growing appreciation of his work which now exudes
the warmth and deft and discipline gained after touring art galleries in
California following the exhibits.
Prior to his short stints in Fine Arts at UST and in Commercial Arts at EARIST in Nagtahan, Avid has honed up his skills first as graphic artist at then Radiowealth Corp. before becoming a comics illustrator collaborating with renowned "novelistas" like Mars Ravelo, Pablo Gomez, Carlo Caparas, Lualhati Bautista and Justo Justo to name a few. These evidently developed his versatility in visual arts, which ranges from varied impressions of romantic still-life, refreshing landscape, engaging historical murals and forthright portraits. His landscapes notably depict reminiscent vibrant scenes of his native Buhi in Camarines Sur where he began the grind of his craft. His favorite subjects are those that convey the essence of fair play, beauty, positive emotions and the virtues of gallantry, love and victory.
Diversity in the pursuit of lucrative living was never a hindrance to artistic endeavors of a true-blooded painter like Avid. Between frames and pages of his pen-and-ink illustrations await him a canvas for his enlivening brush strokes.
Even after establishing an entrepreneurial venture in outdoor advertising in Sta. Mesa, Manila, before leaving for some countries to work as graphic designer of book and magazine covers in a large publishing company, Avid's intimacy with the Muse of the visual arts grew the more fondly and amorously.
All these artistic intercourse have given Avid admirable art crafts that are a blend of beauty, harmony and mirth in oils and acrylics on canvas.
President of Asog Artists Association, Inc., Avid has won awards in local art competitions and joined painting exhibits. He is an active member of the Art Association of the Philippines and auditor of Buklod Sining artists group aside from being the chairman of Canvas Artists Society of the Philippines. -Etnas
